The Avenue Champs Elysees

View from the Arc de Triomphe

Known as the most prestigious avenue in Paris, the Champs Elysees is also the most expensive street for real estate in all of Europe. In fact, the most expensive Paris luxury apartment rentals on this popular strip can go for as much as $125,000 a month for about 1,100 square feet!

Spanning from the Arc de Triomphe in the West to the Luxor Obelisque in the East, the Champs Elysees is an absolute must see for visitors to Paris and there are plenty of Paris vacation apartment rentals within a 10 minutes’ walk that will fit the budget of the non-bourgeoisie.

Like any busy urban street, shopping and eating are an obvious choice for residents and visitors alike, but being lucky enough to be present on the Champs Elysees for any of the world renowned events that occur on the 2km long stretch is a once in a lifetime experience. France’s version of America’s July 4th, Bastille Day, brings the largest military parade in all of Europe featuring a live speech by the President of the Republic and in recent years has even featured armies of surrounding countries such as England and Germany. The Tour de France’s final stage, the Champs Elysees Stage, concludes on the avenue and the post-race awards ceremony is held right on the street. Also, in celebration of the holiday spirit and France’s artistic history, the Champs Elysees committee will creatively light the entire avenue from November until early January; just after one of the best New Year’s celebrations in the world.

If the timing isn’t right and shopping and eating is the only thing on the agenda, then be sure to find a short term rental in Paris rather than a hotel, because you might need an entire week to experience it all. Although France has fought hard to maintain an authentically French experience on the west end of the avenue, foreign clothing stores and other chains have begun to show their faces, much to the dismay of local Parisians. In fact, in 2007 the City of Paris even banned Sweden’s modern fashion chain H&M from the street! On the east end, the restaurants and shops make way for the beautiful Jardins de Champs Elysees where the streets are lined with beautifully arranged gardens and fountains leading back to the Place de la Concorde.

Although it may be slightly more expensive than other districts (arrondissments) of Paris, finding a Paris apartment rental in the nearby vicinity of Champs Elysees is as good a location as it gets to explore the City of Lights and have a great time in the process.
